Unsuccessfully trying to close old family wounds on a trip back to the Rhode Island home of her miserable childhood, Brooke Adams (Days of Heaven, Invasion of the Body Snatchers) strikes up a new friendship with neighbor Trish Van Devere—and gets ensnared in another family conflict. Michael Roemer’s (Nothing But a Man, The Plot Against Harry) gripping feature never received a proper theatrical release and was eventually broadcast on PBS under the title Haunted. Now fully restored, the film can finally take its place among the great character-driven melodramas produced on the fringes of Hollywood in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
