ABOUT ABOUT

A road movie? A post-modern western? A countercultural statement fueled by drugs and adrenalin? Vanishing Point is all of these and more. While not a major success at the box office, Vanishing Point has since earned cult status from muscle car fanatics to cinephiles alike. The tale of ex-Vietnam vet and former racecar driver Kowalski (Barry Newman) who agrees to drive a 1970 Dodge Challenger from Denver to San Francisco. Pursued by police and encouraged by radio DJ “Super Soul,” Kowalski’s journey is an action-packed thrill ride through the southwestern United States. (Richard C. Sarafian, USA, 1971, 96 min.)

Introduced by essayist and cultural historian, Robert M. Rubin in conjunction with the publication of “Vanishing Point Forever” (Film Desk Books)
